QB Rankings -- Week 13

For some, the fantasy playoffs are starting this week. For others, it could be a make or break situation. Win and you're in. Lose and you're done. Atleast with the game. The ridicule from your friends is a different story. Of course, you could also play the role of spoiler. There's a team in my league that is running rampant these past few weeks as he gets back guys like Shaun Alexander into his lineup. Right now he's killing the hopes for divisional titles and first round byes. Bottom line...always pay attention to your lineup. If you don't have a shot, atleast you can take down one of those idiots that's been talking so much smack lately. That being said, here's a look at this week's QB rankings for NFL Week 13. Commentary: HyperBowl

by Phil Brody

Playoffs. It’s what we draft for, what we trade for, what we add/drop for, what we go head-to-head for. It’s why we play this game.

Playoffs. Full of possibility, where records are vanquished and every worthy team has a chance to advance, to win it all, to have their name engraved on a trophy.

Playoffs. Three weeks of elite talent matching up and battling it out until the fat lady sings, until Fat Jessica Alba becomes Into The Blue Alba and graces one team with the sweet sounds of victory.

Sometimes the best team wins out, sometimes a dark horse surprises all.

Sometimes heroes become MVPs, sometimes supervillains unexpectedly emerge, to the delight of some and to the chagrin of others.

Getting in is always the goal, no sometimes about it. However, getting in is never easy. You have to earn it ever week along the way, right down to the last week of the regular season, Week Thirteen.

Welcome to Week Thirteen.

I hope things have fallen into place for all of you to make it a week filled with intrigue and a weekend full of possibility.

It has for me. I need a win this week and I’m in. Simple as that. A win and I’m dancing. How great is that?

It’s been a rough year for me, what with a backfield of Ronnie Brown & Carnell Williams. On draft day, I was delighted at those names, excited by all that potential. Ugh. Also drafted McNabb in the mid-rounds, which was great until two weeks ago. His injury sent me reeling and has me pinning my playoff hopes on the likes of David Carr, Trent Green, and, now, Jay Cutler. Yep, I hate this game.

However, I drafted a solid WR corps in Reggie Wayne and Roy Williams, plus I traded for Donald Driver. I stuck with Chris Cooley early on and my patience has been paying off lately. I also have Mr. Joseph Addai on my roster and I did indeed play him this past weekend. Yep, I love this game!

That’s it in a nutshell: I love this game, I hate this game. Simple as that. How great is that?

Now let’s hope this weekend, this game loves me. Or should I say, loves us all.

Good luck to all and to all good luck.

Things I’m Watching This Week: Jay Cutler, Vince Young & Matt Leinart, Joseph Addai, Laurence Maroney & Frank Gore, Devery Henderson, Braylon Edwards & Jerricho Cotchery, Chiefs, Broncos & Bengals, Giants, Panthers &Vikings

Tuesday Morning Quarterback

Player of the Week: Edge who? That's what Colts fans were saying when rookie running back Joseph Addai did his best LTD impression as he ran all over the Eagles' defense to the tune of 171 rushing yards ( 7.1 yards per carry average) and 4 TD's. He also kicked in 37 receiving yards to boost his fantasy totals this week. Slowly but surely he is pushing teammate Dominic Rhodes down the depth charts and should prove to be a solid option for you in the upcoming playoffs.

It was a fantasy bonanza for you this week if you started:

QB Tony Romo, DAL: 306 passing yards-5 TD
QB Brad Johnson, MIN: 271 passing yards-3 TD, 15 rushing yards

QB Drew Brees, NO: 349 passing yards-2 TD
QB Carson Palmer, CIN: 275 passing yards-3 TD, 1 INT

TE Todd Heap, BAL: 58 receiving yards-1 TD
K Laurence Tynes, KC: 4 FG, 1 XP
DEF Baltimore Ravens: 2 INT, 9 sacks, 1 DFR, 1 DTD

You were better off watching reruns of Bonanza if you started:

QB Rex Grossman, CHI: 176 passing yards, 3 INT, FL
QB Bruce Gradkowski, TB: 120 passing yards, 2 INT, 17 rushing yards
QB Ben Roethlisberger, PIT: 214 passing yards, 2 INT, FL
QB Phillip Rivers, SD: 133 passing yards, 1 INT
RB Edgerrin James, ARI: 15 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards, FL
RB Leon Washington, NYJ: 17 rushing yards, 6 receiving yards
RB Corey Dillon, NE: 40 rushing yards, 3 receiving yards
RB Willie Parker, PIT: 22 rushing yards, 15 receiving yards
WR Donte Stallworth, PHI: 9 receiving yards
WR Marvin Harrison, IND: 8 receiving yards
WR Michael Jenkins. ATL: 6 receiving yards
WR Chad Jackson, NE: -8 rushing yards, 0 receiving yards
WR Santana Moss, WAS: 12 receiving yards
TE Dallas Clark, IND: 4 receiving yards (left game with injury)
TE Desmond Clark, CHI: 14 receiving yards
TE Vernon Davis, SF: 11 receiving yards
K Sebastian Janikowski, OAK: 2 XP
DEF Pittsburgh Steelers: 27 PA, 275 TYdA

I should be asking you for advice if you started:

RB Brandon Jacobs, NYG: 54 rushing yards-2 TD, 14 receiving yards
WR Marty Booker, MIA: 115 receiving yards-2 TD
K Mike Nugent, NYJ: 4 FG (1 for 54 yds), 2 XP
DEF Arizona Cardinals: 2 sacks, 1 DFR, 2 DTD

News & Notes

It was only a matter of time, but you can now up the value of your Seahawks again. They were all knocking a little of the rust off in the snow last night and should be ready to put up some serious points just in time for your fantasy playoffs.

Seems like ages ago, but let's give it up for our Thanksgiving heroes...Joey Harrington shows not only can you go home again, but you can embarrass your former team at the same time. Seems like everyone's jumping on the Tony Romo bandwagon here. You can't not use him if the matchup is rught, but I'm holding off my full endorsement right now. I need more consistency for a guy who never had any fantasy value until late October. And finally, ever since Trent Green got back, it's been all Larry Johnson and Laurence Tynes. Way to shake up that offense, Herm.

For the first time in a while, the Vikings offense finally bailed out the Vikings defense. Good thing Brad Johnson and Chester Taylor stepped it up, because Matt Leinart, Larry Fitgerald and Anquan Boldin were having a field day in that secondary.

Steven Jackson and Marc Bulger are finally starting to get used to life in football without Orlando Pace. It's only a matter of time before Torry Holt returns to elite form.

Watching Chad Pennington bring two receivers over the 100 yard mark makes me realize that there's nothing like a game against the Texans to lift your spirits (and your stats) back up. Unless your the Jaguars...

Which brings me to the official announcement that the Jacksonville Jaguars are an enigma wrapped up in a mystery and surrounded by questions. 4 out of their 5 losses are against the Texans (2), Redskins and now the Bills? It's getting to the point where you can't even start their DST these days. Fantasy wise, the whole team is just too inconsistent.

Quoth the Raven, fear the Ravens. With Ray Lewis back, this team is going all the way. Looks like Steve McNair just may get that Super Bowl ring he missed by a yard back in 2000.

Enjoy your Steelers for the start of your playoffs, but don't expect them to finish for you. They get two easy matchups coming against Tampa and Cleveland, but then it's over to Carolina and back up against the Ravens after that. Fast Willie can get you there, but if Sunday was any indication, he ain't gonna be the guy who wins it for you.

You can reserve that for LaDanian Tomlinson. With the surprising Oaktown defense shutting down America's sweetheart, Phillip Rivers, it was LTD who once again saved the day. He only needs to average a TD a game from here on in to break the single season record. Pfffft!! When was the last time he only had a touchdown in a game?

I'm forming an "Owners of Joe Horn" support group if anyone is interested. You can send me an email to let me know what nights are good for you for the meetings.

Michael Vick really bailed out his fantasy owners with his rushing numbers this week. Still...this is one deep valley. "Now where in the hell did I put that stupid passing game??"

Jury's still out on Jason Campbell here. 66 of his 118 passing yards came on that last TD play in the 4th quarter. That doesn't make for a nice first 3 quarters. Can you really lean on Ladell Betts that much?

If you're playing a team in the upcoming playoffs that starts Carson Palmer, you better hope you have guys that put up career days. Here's the fantasy monster we all thought we were getting on draft day.

Could this be the game that breaks out Vince Young to be a fantasy stud or are the Giants just that bad now? Either Tom Coughlin runs Eli Manning out of town soon or he gets fired. I'm betting on the latter.

Peyton Manning gets some well deserved rest on Sunday as he got to watch Joe Addai take over on the ground. Don't worry Marvin Harrison fans. They'll get back together again soon. You don't think he really likes Reggie Wayne more, do you?

Looks like the wheels are falling off the Rex Grossman bandwagon finally. Yes folks, that was a big fat zero he put up this week. Ruining fantasy hopefuls everywhere.

Hope you had a nice holiday weekend.

QB Rankings -- Week 12

Short week here and there are still a lot of question marks. The fallout from this past week's injuries has been gruesome. There are going to be quite a number of gametime decisions thus affecting players at other positions, so this weeks QB rankings will have an added mark. While the color coding all remains the same, "*" next to a guy's name indicates that there is a player on his team that is injured and should affect the QBs overall performance. The injured player's name will also be included so you can see just how much of an impact there may be.

1. Peyton Manning, IND -- vs. PHI
2. Drew Brees*, NO -- @ ATL (WR Marques Colston -- may need to rely on rookie wideouts)

Tuesday Morning Quarterback

Player of the Week: If he keeps this up, this could...and should...be his own personal space each week. Crushing his doubters that said he couldn't run in Denver, LaDanian Tomlinson racked up another 4 TDs (3 rush, 1 rec) and another 179 all purpose yards. In doing so he broke the record for fastest to 100 TDs (89 games), set the record for 3 or more TDs in 4 consecutive games and is currently on pace to atleast tie Shaun Alexander's single season mark of 28. If he's on your team, you are, no doubt, on a huge roll in your league and likely headed to the fantasy playoffs. Enjoy the ride as it only gets better next week against Oaktown.

You're cruising on a fantasy yacht towards the playoffs if you started:

QB Tom Brady, NE: 244 passing yards-4 TD, 6 rushing yards, FL
QB Carson Palmer, CIN: 275 passing yards-3 TD, 1 INT
QB Drew Brees, NO: 510 passing yards-2 TD, 3 INT
RB LaDanian Tomlinson, SD: 105 rushing yards-3 TD, 74 receiving yards-1 TD
RB Larry Johnson, KC: 154 rushing yards-2 TD
RB Jamal Lewis, BAL: 91 rushing yards-3 TD, 17 receiving yards
RB Frank Gore, SF: 212 rushing yards, 26 receiving yards
WR Lee Evans, BUF: 265 receiving yards-2 TD (both 83 yarders)
WR Chad Johnson, CIN: 190 receiving yards-3 TD
WR Deion Branch, SEA: 113 receiving yards-1 TD
WR Reggie Wayne, IND: 111 receiving yards-1 TD
TE Ben Watson, NE: 74 receiving yards-1 TD
TE Chris Cooley, WAS: 57 receiving yards-1 TD
DEF Miami Dolphins: 1 INT, 3 sacks, 2 DFR, 2 DTD

You're manning the Fantasy Titanic if you went with:

QB Donovan McNabb, PHI: 78 passing yards, 1 INT (left game with injury; done for season)
QB Brett Favre, GB: 73 passing yards (left game with injury)
QB Chad Pennington, NYJ: 162 passing yards, 2 INT (wish he left the game with an injury)
QB Marc Bulger, STL: 142 passing yards, 1 INT
RB Ahman Green, GB: 28 rushing yards
RB Lamont Jordan, OAK: 24 rushing yards (left game with injury; done for atleast 4 weeks)
RB Kevin Jones, DET: 8 rushing yards (left game with injury)
RB Shaun Alexander, SEA: 37 rushing yards
RB Tiki Barber, NYG: 27 rushing yards
WR Isaac Bruce, STL: 6 receiving yards
WR Randy Moss, OAK: 0 receiving yards
WR Marques Colston, NO: 0 receiving yards (left game with injury)
WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, CIN: 15 receiving yards
TE Jerramy Stevens, SEA: 18 receiving yards, FL
TE Chris Baker, NYJ: 3 receiving yards
TE Alge Crumpler, ATL: 16 receiving yards
K Jeff Wilkins, STL: nothing...you believe that crap?!?!? nothing!
DEF Detroit Lions: 17 PA, 338 TYdA

You seem to have Yoda-like super powers if you knew to start:

QB J.P. Losman, BUF: 340 passing yards-3 TD, 1 INT, 14 rushing yards (c'mon...Houston or no Houston, he's no one's #1 guy)
QB Jason Campbell, WAS: 196 passing yards-2 TD, 11 rushing yards
RB Travis Henry, TEN: 143 rushing yards-1 TD (I'll stop puttin ghim in this section if one person writes to me and tells me they start him regularly)
WR Devery Henderson, NO: 169 receiving yards
WR Mike Bradley, CHI: 80 receiving yards-1 TD
TE Justin Peellee, MIA: 21 receiving yards-1 TD
TE Courtney Anderson, OAK: 15 receiving yards-1 TD
DEF Cleveland Browns: 3 INT, 2 sacks, 2 DTD
DEF Tennessee Titans: 1 INT, 2 DFR, 2 DTD

News & Notes

Injuries, injuries and more injuries. Fantasy owners are still in shock. We'll all grasp it once the idea of the short week hits us on Thanksgiving. Really? Games in 2 days? For a more in depth injury analysis check yesterday's entry.

If Eli really wants to silence all those critics, he's going to have to do a lot better than that. Of course it doesn't help with zero ground game and a dozen false starts. That offensive line was, indeed, offensive.

Here's a fun fact that I learned the other day: LaDanian Tomlinson has more TDs this season than 18 of the 32 NFL teams. Hmmm. Verrrrrrry interesting.

Shoulder problem? What shoulder problem? Tom Brady started his carving a few days early as that Green Bay secondary looked like one fat bird.

As expected, the best fantasy player in the MIA/MIN game was the Dolphins defense. I'll give an honorable mention to Chester Taylor because I know that garbage TD at the end gave atleast one fantasy owner a very non-deserved victory.

Looks to me like Willie Parker is slowly trying to creep into that elite fantasy back tier. Just a wee bit more Willie, and you're there. Solid job bailing your team (and mine) out of trouble.

Speaking of elite backs...happy birthday Larry Johnson. Well, for Sunday that is. Nice of you to give your fantasy owners such a valuable gift on your day. Trade him? I never said that, did I? I said you should raid him....from another team. ahem.

Anyone else see that big fat zero Randy Moss put up? If that doesn't convince you that all Raiders should be benched, I don't know what will. ::witnesses Aaron Brooks game ending INT, nods with disgruntled approval::

Sometimes I need to pay more attention to certain offensive linemen. Orlando Pace is the glue that keeps that Rams offense together. The fact that they allowed more sacks than they scored points is just shameful.

You know...you take away those two 83 yard touchdowns and Lee Evans had a pretty ordinary day. He wouldn't have even had 100 yards. Pffffffffft!!!! (how well does sarcasm play in the written word?)

Hey Michael Vick! That's one deep friggin valley. You don't find a peak sometime soon I'm gonna look awfully foolish here.

A big Niners upset riding on the back of Frank Gore. He leads the NFC in yardage yet seems to be violently allergic to the endzone. **sigh** maybe soon.

Uh oh. Could Kevin Jones really be the key to Detroit this year? We'll know on Thanksgiving as I see Arlen Harris getting the carries.

Not a bad audition for Jason Campbell. Pretty good day considering the circumstances. But I'll reserve judgement until after next week vs. Carolina.

I understand Philly's woes with regard to Donovan McNabb, but did he also play defense??? How do you let Travis Henry rack up 143 yards???

Sure the upset was a big deal. Sort of. We all had our suspicions. But fantasy wise? Colts/Cowboys? Ho hum.

No Colston. No Houshmandzadeh. No problem. The Saints and Bengals continue to churn out an amazing amount of fantasy points. Can you really throw for over 500 yards and lose though?

Apparently so.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Commentary: F-ugh-K!

by Phil Brody

One the way to this commentary, I hit my head and suffered a Grade Two concussion. As a result, I do not recall Sunday at all.

So, did anything newsworthy happen?

I was kidding about the concussion, although as an owner of McNabb, Ronnie Brown, Donald Driver, Roy Williams, Larry Fitz and the Chargers D, I only wish I could somehow forget what I witnessed yesterday. Ugh. I wish there was a pill for that. Then, maybe, just maybe, there’d be a smile on my face today.

Instead, shellshock. “Are you F-ing kidding me?”
Disbelief. “I cannot believe my eyes.”
Betrayal. “Et tu, Donald?”

Geez, oh man, it’s amazing how one day, one Sunday of NFL action can alter, affect and agonize one’s fantasy team, mood and day.

Sunday. UGH! Make it go away, someone, please.

Donovan McNabb, out for the year, torn ACL.
Brett Favre, injured elbow.
Aaron Brook, out for the year, an inoperable case of suckiness.
LaMont Jordan, out for the year, torn MCL.
DeShaun Foster, status uncertain, hyperextended elbow.

Also injured, but not so serious:
Colston, Kevin Jones, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Hines Ward, Corey Dillon.

Also newsworthy:
Brees throws for 500+ yards, loses.
BAMF is just not human, should be cast on that show Heroes.
Willie Parker, Travis Henry, Frank Gore go off.
So does Lee Evans and Chad Johnson (again).
Isaac Bruce flat-out sucked this week.
Lundy & Gado entered a RBBC.
A day after Ohio Sate fills all of Ohio with glee, Cleveland is slapped back down to earth by former Miami University QB, Ben Roethlisberger.

F-ugh-K!

What a day. What. A. Day.

Not sure I can take much more, but that’s because I’m losing, facing an uphill battle to enter the post season, wishing for pills that could vanquish the pain.

In other news, I think I saw Jessica Alba the other day. Five-Six, Two-Fifteen. And the fat lady was humming too.

F-ugh-K me.

-----

What I’m Watching: Favre, Leinart, Trent Green, SA, LJ, LT, Driver, Fitz, Chad, all the Thanksgiving games, and Chicago at New England.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Somebody Call A Medic!!!!!

Wow!!

Week 11 passes and it looks like New Orleans the day after Katrina hit. Fantasy owners everywhere are scratching their heads and running like crazy for their laptops to rummage through the waiver wire.

This week was a disaster for most. For those of us blessed with LaDanian Tomlinson on their rosters, not so much.

Let's take a look at who went down and what you might be able to do to save your fantasy season from immediate flushing...

Donovan McNabb, QB PHI: Another year, another disastrous ending. It didn't even look like he got touched on that play, but to avoid hate mail from you McNabb fluffers out there, I won't talk about his frail little chicken legs and I'll just say that a torn ACL sucks. Either way, he's done for the year. If you don't have a viable backup, then it's going to be a tough road for you. The waiver wires are probably picked pretty clean at this point and you don't know whether or not to pick up Jeff Garcia or A.J. Feeley. My guess is that Feeley will end up taking over. Did you see how awful Garcia looked out there? It almost looked like he was afraid to be in there. Hopefully there will be someone available like a Charlie Frye or a Bruce Gradkowski available. I would grab someone like that along with Feeley and keep my bases covered.
As for the rest of the Eagles, it's some good and some bad news. Brian Westbrook owners should be psyched. Traditionally, when you go to the backup, offensive coordinators have a tendency to lean on the RBs to take the pressure off of an inexperienced signal caller. Westbrook should see a few more carries per game as well as a few extra screens thrown his way.
Another beneficiary should be L.J. Smith. The tight end is another who gets those little short passes when the new QB can't get the ball downfield. Smith should see an increase in receptions which hopefully will increase the looks he gets inside the red zone. Once the new QB builds up a trust with his TE, whether it's pass blocking or making a tough catch, it usually translates into bigger fantasy points.
The Eagles' receivers could be the ones who suffer the most. Now you can say that they won't lose too much in value...that teams will key on the run now and leave the wideouts a little more open....but really....that's crap. Sure it could be true, but now it's eithe Feeley or Garcia throwing the ball to them. Overthrows, underthrows, poor decision making...there's a reason these guys are backups and not starters. The values of Donte Stallworth and Reggie Brown take a hit. At best, you should consider Stallworth an average WR2 and Brown an average WR3. I wouldn't rely on them right now and I'm not. I'll more than likely be benching Stallworth for either Terry Glenn or Mike Furrey or some other 5 to 8 point guy. Now I don't say drop them...not at all, but if you have better options, you may need to start using them until you see something better from Philly.

Brett Favre, QB GB: It's never good to see someone as legendary as Favre go down like this, especially in a season that could be/should be his last. He jammed his elbow on Sunday and it went numb on him which led to his exit. Word out of Green Bay, though, is that he will be fine and should be ready to go for week 12. His backup, however, is a different story. Aaron Rogers has been diagnosed with a broken foot and he'll be going on IR and lost for the season. Former Furman QB Ingle Martin now takes over in that department. My advice here is similar to that with McNabb. While technically you should have Favre this coming weekend, you're going to need a viable backup. Check your waiver wire and see if the aforementioned Frye, or Gradkowski, or someone starting regularly is available. If so, grab them. But I would also grab Martin -- just in case. You never know with some of these guys. The concept behind the Wally Pipp story needn't be limited to just baseball.
As for the rest of your Packers, all seems well so far. Nothing changes unless Favre is out. As long as he is playing, then guys like Donald Driver and Greg Jennings maintain their current values.

Kevin Jones, RB DET: Wouldn't you know it. The one year he finally starts to break out, the turf monster reaches up and grabs him by the ankle. Now supposedly he should be playing in week 12, but it's an ankle sprain...no one will say how high of an ankle sprain...and the sight of him being carted off the field doesn't instill much confidence. Throw in the short week -- the Lions play on Thursday -- and you have a recipe for disaster. Grab Arlen Harris immediately!! While he may not have all of the skills that Jones was supposed to have, he is a servicable back and should do OK in Mike Martz' offense.
The lingering effects for the rest of the team are slight, but definitely there. If Harris can't get the job done, the defenses will be able to drop into coverage more, nullifying Roy Williams. That will then obviously hurt the value of Jon Kitna. If he's got no running game to rely on, then he could be in line for quite the number of INTs. Again, all specualtion until we find out the full diagnosis on Jones, but better safe than sorry.

Lamont Jordan, RB OAK: Now this injury may hurt some, but still not as bad as it hurt some people who took Jordan in the first round of their draft. He has been a monumental disappointment this year and has probably done more harm than good for your fantasy squad. To make it a little worse for you, the Raiders will immediately drop into a running back by committee. Justin Fargas and Zack Crockett will get the reps, with the majority going to Fargas and the goal line opps to Crockett. You might as well grab both if you're hurting at the RB spot and see how it plays out. Now the rumor is that he may only be out for like 4 weeks, but it's more likely he goes on IR, ending his season. Either way...it's not like you'd be psyched to see him come back and activate him for your championship game. Consider him done.
Impact on the rest of the team? Hey...they're the Raiders. They all suck and if any of them -- including Randy Moss -- is active for you, then you got some serious fantasy problems.

DeShaun Foster, RB CAR: Who would have thought it would take until week 11 to see this guy's name on an injury list. I can't believe he's lasted this long. Still, an elbow injury took him out of Sunday's game against the Rams and paved the way for DeAngelo Williams to start his NFL highlight reel. While the team fully expects Foster to be active for week 12, it certainly has opened the door for more committee work by the two. If Williams is still available, well then obviously grab him. That would also mean that you're in a league of idiots, including you who drafted Foster without grabbing your insurance policy.
All other Panthers' fantasy values remain the same. If Williams shines through, they might even increase as teams will have to account for a speedster in the backfield now.

Marques Colston, WR NO: This must have been a kick in the groin to a lot of you out there. He left in the 1st quarter with a high ankle sprain and did not return. It's rumored to not be serious -- that he will play next week -- but Devery Henderson and Terrance Copper should be added as insurance. When your QB is capable of tossing for 500+ yards and his top guy is out, you know others will find a way to benefit. It looks like Joe Horn should be reaping the benefits most if Colston misses any length of time. He could return to his top form once again.
On a side note, this injury here is just karma for all of you losers out there in Yahoo! leagues that are using Colston as a tight end. Now go pick up Bubba Franks or Anthony Becht. Jackasses. I don't care what Yahoo! allows. You and your commish should have made the appropriate changes.

Hines Ward, WR PIT: From bad to worse for the defending champs. A hyperextended knee looks like it will keep Ward out for atleast week 12 -- possibly longer. If that's the case, then Santonio Holmes and Nate Washington should see a boost in value. Without Ward getting most of the looks from Big Ben, these guys could turn it on for the next few games. Washington is more of a possession guy, but Holmes has the speed and ability to be a deep threat. He's already had a few nice TD grabs.
One guy who really should see an improvement in value is TE Heath Miller. With Ward out, he could once again be a serious red zone target. I expect his production to increase over the next game or two.

Good luck filling the holes and plugging the gaps. Use your waiver picks wisely. Now is a time more crucial than any other.

A Closer Fantasy Look at Week 11

Atlanta @ Baltimore

This one is a tough game to call. Some serious questions out there. Which Michael Vick will show up? Can Warrick Dunn run on the Ravens? How much will it hurt the Ravens defense with Ray Lewis out? Can Steve McNair keep this up? It's a lot to deal with. I think Lewis being out will have a strong effect on this game. While Dunn may not find a lot of success, I think Vick will be able to scramble for some decent yardage and find Alge Crumpler up the middle for a few good catches. Michael Jenkins may find a look or two as well. The Ravens have no legitimate ground game, so McNair makes for a solid play against a struggling Falcons secondary. Mark Clayton and Derrick Mason should get the most attention as it looks like Todd Heap is not at full strength and may not even play. Looks for a close one but with solid fantasy point potential.

Buffalo @ Houston

A bottom feeding game like this can be loaded with fantasy gems. Both teams should try to establish a running game, so Wali Lundy and the resurgent Anthony Thomas should get a decent number of touches. And obviously they both have decent matchups. The aerial game won't be disappointing either as J.P Losman and Lee Evans try to keep pace with David Carr and Andre Johnson. The sleeper here for me is Eric Moulds who would love to show up his former team. I think he comes through.

Chicago @ NY Jets

I'm not sure if it's my Jets loyalty that blinds me or if they really do have a shot at making something out of this week's game. It's hard to recommend any of the Jets with the Bears defense as good as it is, but guys like Laveraneus Coles and even Jerricho Cotchery may be ok to play. If the Jets get some running going with Kevan Barlow and Leon Washington, then maybe they have a shot. If not then they should be playing catch up and airing it out. Chad Pennington will probably throw as many INTs as he does TDs, but the WRs will atleast get the looks. For the Bears, starting Thomas Jones should be a no-brainer this week against a super-sketchy Jets run defense. That alone should open it up nicely for Rex Grossman to find Mushin Muhammed and Desmond Clark. Not gonna be a barnburner, but there should still be some decent scoring.

Cincinnati @ New Orleans

Now this one should be a barnburner. Start 'em all. Drew Brees and Carson Palmer should both be airing it out all day long which means that Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Joe Horn and Marques Colston should be great plays this week. Chris Henry also might see some nice looks, but the last time I said that he gave up on his team. The difference maker here will be the ground game and I like the tandem of Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush to find more fantasy success than the one of Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry.

Minnesota @ Miami

The complete polar opposite of the Bengals/Saints game. This one's gonna be a fantasy snoozer; unless you have Ryan Longwell, Olindo Mare or either defense. The Dolphins had a big win against the Chiefs last week, but a 13-10 game is hardly the thing fantasy dreams are built on. Let's face it. It's still Joey Harrington and the Fins are putting all their eggs in his basket. With Ronnie Brown banged up and the Vikings owning the NFL's best rushing defense, Miami is going to have to rely on Harrington to lead them. Ask anyone in Detroit about his ability to lead. For the Vikings, the offense is fizzling. Chester Taylor is showing serious signs of breaking down and Brad Johnson hasn't been so good either. Probably doesn't help when all your WRs go MIA. Does Troy Williamson have more than 10 receptions all year? Expect a low scoring affair here.

New England @ Green Bay

The whispers about Tom Brady's shoulder and the signing of Vinny "Greenballs" Testaverde should make you nervous, but it's still a nice matchup here. If he is healthy, Brady should have a decent day in the air, but remember, he does like to spread it around. It's tough to figure who's going to have the TDs between Chad Jackson, Ben Watson , Doug Gabriel or Reche Caldwell. Jackson and Watson appear to be the favorites for now. Look for Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney to have decent days and maybe take some of the pressure off of their QB. For the Packers, it's the trio of Brett Favre, Donald Driver and Ahman Green. That's where the fantasy points lie these days. You might see a little more out of TE David Martin as the Pack will still be without Greg Jennings or a legit #2 wideout.

Oakland @ Kansas City

The winds of change are blowing in this game. Aaron Brooks takes over at QB again for the Raiders and Trent Green mans the helm for the Chiefs once again. Not sure if any of it is for the better, but we'll see. To keep the pressure off of Green, the Chiefs will ride Larry Johnson all day against a suspect Raiders rushing D. Johnson should have some nice abusive numbers this week. The sleeper for the Chiefs, I think, is Eddie Kennison. He and Green work well together so you can expect a few long shots towards the endzone. Also, with Tony Gonzalez out for the week, who else is he going to throw to? The change to Brooks in Oaktown may be a little tougher. He can air it out, but he makes poor decisions. The INTs could be high. Lamont Jordan has been a relative disappointment this year so he's hit or miss here, Jerry Porter is just getting going still and Randy Moss keeps saying he wants out. This team is still a disaster.

Pittsburgh @ Cleveland

While the Steelers have been a disappointment in NFL reality, you can't be too unhappy with their fantasy production. You can expect more of the same fantasy wise this week as Willie Parker, Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward and even Heath Miller should feast upon a poor Cleveland defense. For the Browns, it looks like RB Jason Wright will get the nod over an injured Reuben Droughns. I don't recommend starting him this week, but he may be worth stashing away on your bench right now. Charlie Frye will have his hands full with the Steelers pass rush, but he should find Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow for some decent hook ups, possibly even a TD or two.

St. Louis @ Carolina

This one should be loaded with solid fantasy points from all of the usual suspects. Jake Delhomme should find Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson all day against a mediocre Rams secondary. They better, since they don't have much of a running game going these days. DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams have been almost non-existent lately. The Rams have been living up to their word and have been getting Steven Jackson more touches here in the second half making him a much more productive back these days. He should definitely be active despite a not so hot matchup. The air attack should be solid as well. Marc Bulger should find Torry Holt in the endzone again, and Isaac Bruce is turning into a decent possession receiver these days. Jeff Wilkins should, once again, prove to be the number one fantasy kicker.

Tennessee @ Philadelphia

Another game of no-brainers here. Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, Donte Stallworth and Reggie Brown should have great days and maybe even L.J. Smith if we're lucky. All should be active for you. For the Titans, it looks like a work still in progress, but it seems to be getting better. Vince Young and Drew Bennett have connected pretty well the past 2 weeks so maybe they'll continue to build on that. Ben Troupe could also start to emerge a little more. I just don't know if we can fully count on Travis Henry. He's looked good at times, but the Eagles rushing D is decent and they've only given up 5 rushing TDs all year.

Washington @ Tampa Bay

This game could just be downright awful. Jason Campbell takes over at QB and he's already without Clinton Portis and Santana Moss. He's going to be relying on Ladell Betts and Brandon Lloyd??? Look for Antwaan Randle-El to get a lot more gimmick plays this week. Maybe he'll be able to throw a TD pass to himself this week. The Bucs D looks like a solid play. For the Bucs offense, it's a matter of getting a ground game established. Carnell Williams is struggling and he's not taking the pressure off of Bruce Gradkowski like he should. Look for Gradkowski to hook up with Joey Galloway and Alex Smith this weekend to give the Bucs the edge this week.

Detroit @ Arizona

One man's trash is another man's treasure? While this game does nothing in the world of the NFL, it has fantasy owners drooling. Mike Martz has this Lions' offense humming. Jon Kitna, Roy Williams and Kevin Jones are all producing and should maintain against a weak Cardinals defense. I might even go out on another Mike Furrey ledge here, but only if you're in need of an injury replacement. For 'Zona, it should be Matt Leinart airing it out to Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald for most of the day. It would be nice to see a disappointing Edgerrin James have a strong game. The Lions rushing D gives up an average of 128 yards per game.

Seattle @ San Francisco

Call it a feeling, but all of this Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander business is feeling more like a distraction than it is helping the Seahawks morale. It looks like Seneca Wallace should get the start, but I can't see him playing well knowing that Hasselebeck is standing over his shoulder and the Niners defense is highly underrated. Deion Branch and Darrell Jackson may struggle a bit if Wallace is off his game. That Alexander may start (game time decision) should keep the Niners defense on it's toes, but everyone knows he's not running at 100%. I like SF in the upset here as Alex Smith to Antonio Bryant and a few Joe Nedney field goals should be enough for the win in a low scoring game here.

Indianapolis @ Dallas

After narrowly escaping the Bills last week, could this be the week that the Colts lose their unbeaten streak? Quite possibly. Julius Jones and Marion Barber should find a lot of success against a horrible Colts rushing D. Look for them to get a lot of attention early. Then get ready for a little Tony Romo action as he tries to keep his receivers happy in what could turn into quite a shootout. Terrell Owens and Jason Witten should get plenty of looks. Possibly even Terry Glenn, but I'm not counting on him much these days. The Dallas D is pretty strong, so Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes could be in for tough days. The show for the Colts remains in the air. Peyton Manning should hit Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne plenty, but the sleeper here just may be Dallas Clark. I called for the Dallas upset in my Preview, so we'll see what happens. These are definitely Tuna friendly waters.

San Diego @ Denver

The big story here is LTD vs. the Broncos rushing defense. Traditionally, Tomlinson doesn't fare too well in Denver as they've held him down the past 5 games these teams have played. Still, you'd have to be an idiot to not start him. He'll get his touches and he'll get his TD. Maybe not 4, but atleast one. His presence alone will help as the Broncos key in on him allowing Phillip Rivers to find his receivers. Antonio Gates may have a little trouble with John Lynch patrolling the middle, but Rivers still has Eric Parker, Keenan McCardell, Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd running around. I'd say look for Jackson and Floyd in the endzone. For the Broncos, their running game has been very inconsistent between Tatum and Mike Bell, so don't expect much. Jake Plummer seems to step it up against better opponents lately, so look for him to find Javon Walker and Rod Smith down field for some good fantasy totals.

NY Giants @ Jacksonville

Two teams in the national spotlight, both trying to rebound from disastrous performances last week. The Giants are going to come out firing as Eli Manning looks to quiet all of this "bad draft choice" talk. Tiki Barber will keep the Jag's defense honest allowing Manning to hit Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress often. I like them all as fantasy picks this week. For the Jags, it can't get any worse for Dave Garrard. Now that Byron Leftwich is having ankle surgery, maybe that'll take the pressure off of him. The Giants are full of injuries on defense, so he should fare much better than last week's 4 INTs and hit Matt Jones and Ernest Wilford for some key strikes. Fred Taylor has been pretty steady this year and so far healthy. Look for him to do well as the Giants defensive line is soft these days. I think we're looking at a surprisingly high scoring game here.

I hope this helps in your decision making. Good luck in your games this week and have a great Football Sunday!

Week 11 Preview

The past two weeks have been a little rough, having gone .500 each time. We'll look to boost that back up and bring us back to where we were picking games earlier in the season. As always, these picks are done without accounting for the spread and the standouts are those that should put up better than average fantasy points this week. QB Rankings -- Week 11

A few changes this week for some starting quarterbacks. The Raiders are trying to jump start their inept offense with the return of Aaron Brooks, the Redskins have had enough of Mark Brunnell, and after a rough week against one of the NFL's most underrated defenses, Herm Edwards looks to alter his team chemistry in Kansas City. Some good decisions and some bad ones. It should be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Tuesday Morning Quarterback

Player of the Week: First repeat of the season, but how can you deny LaDanian Tomlinson his second weekly crown after a 5 week strectch with 15 TDs? Yesterday, LTD rushed for 104 yards with 4 TDs giving him 10 in his last 3. He also tacked on an additional 54 receiving yards to add to his totals. Sure, there were guys with better yardage, but c'mon now...this guy came out in the second half against the Bengals and proved to the world that he is the best player in the NFL today.

You're looking like a fantasy champ if you started:

QB Carson Palmer, CIN: 440 passing yards-3 TD, FL
QB Phillip Rivers, SD: 338 passing yards-3 TD
QB Steve McNair, BAL: 373 passing yards-3 TD, 2 INT

K Joe Nedney, SF: 4 FG, 1 XP
DEF St. Louis Rams: 6 sacks, 2 DFR, 1 DTD
DEF Chicago Bears: 2 INT, 2 sacks, 1 DFR, 1 DTD

You're looking like a fantasy chump if you started:

QB Mark Brunnell, WAS: 132 passing yards, 1 INT
QB J.P. Losman, BUF: 83 passing yards
QB Dave Garrard, JAC: 214 passing yards, 4 INT, 44 rushing yards
RB Clinton Portis, WAS: 25 rushing yards, 6 receiving yards (left game with broken hand)
RB Tatum Bell, DEN: 37 rushing yards
RB Laurence Maroney, NE: 37 rushing yards
RB Julius Jones, DAL: 45 rushing yards
WR Mike Furrey, DET: 13 receiving yards (but really...I had no choice but to start him ::hangs head in shame::)
WR Santana Moss, WAS: 17 receiving yards
WR Deion Branch, SEA: 22 receiving yards
WR Marvin Harrison, IND: 21 receiving yards
WR Laveraneus Coles, NYJ: 29 receiving yards
TE Ben Watson, NE: 16 receiving yards
TE Jeremy Shockey, NYG: 15 receiving yards
K Nick Novack, WAS: 1 FG
DEF Minnesota Vikings: 23 PA, 394 TYdA
DEF Arizona Cardinals: 27 PA, 434 TYdA

Mind-numbing fantasy know-how if you started:

RB Travis Henry, TEN: 107 rushing yards-1 TD
WR Mark Clayton. BAL: 125 receiving yards-1 TD
WR Patrick Crayton, DAL: 104 receiving yards-1 TD
WR Malcom Floyd, SD: 109 receiving yards-1 TD
TE Brandon Manumaleuna, STL: 14 receiving yards-2 TD
TE Bo Scaife, TEN: 13 rushing yards-1 TD, 48 receiving yards
TE Dan Campbell, DET: 16 receiving yards-1 TD

News & Notes

Sorry for the delays...still out west so you east coasters at the office will have to settle for some lunch time reading. So here we go...

Puking on the sidelines all night long and he still racks up 149 yards with a TD?? Steve Smith is entering that studliest of studs level now. Either that or Tampa Bay just needs to fold up their tents now.

There really is quite a quarterback controversy in Jacksonville. What a dilemma! Byron Leftwich and his ankle that needs surgery or Dave Garrard and his 4 INTs against a horrible Texans pass D. Gotta give it up for Houston. They may have swept away the Jags' playoff chances along with that season series.

The Brett Favre Farewell Tour looked like a fun ticket in Minnesota.....if your name is Donald Driver.

You'd think the big fantasy story out of the Colts/Bills game would be all about Peyton and Co., but hold on....they may have won the game, but they got bumped by the A-Train and his 100+ yards. McGahee owners who didn't handcuff themselves to the "5 years ago" wonder are bumming right now. Thomas' ressurrection rolls into Houston next week.

Fantasy owners everywhere and NFL teams better start respecting the matchup against the Miami defense. The only fantasy bright spot for the Chiefs was Larry Johnson and even that bulb was dimmer than usual.

Now there's the Frank Gore we remember from week 2!! Too bad he missed the second half with a concussion. The yardage could have been ridiculous with those gaping holes in the Lions' run defense.

Hmmmmm. Neither Andrew Walter nor Aaron Brooks were able to lead the Raiders to success. Maybe it is the offensive coordinator's fault. Maybe Walter's on to something here. Or maybe it's just that he and Brooks suck? We'll see again as Oaktown benches Walter and goes back to Brooks next week.

Picture a world where this past Sunday you had both LTD and Chad Johnson in your active lineup. Ooooooooh, goosebumps!

Mental Note: Eli. Rain. Bad.

Terry Glenn's fantasy value is shooting down the crapper as Tony Romo reconnects with old practice squad buddy Patrick Crayton. Between throws to his best friend and enough looks to keep T.O. quiet, there's doesn't look to be any more room at the inn.

Fear not your matchup against the Ravens defense. After watching the Titans put up 26 points and with the injury to Ray Lewis it looks they ain't so bad. "You see that?!? He's a man!!! He's not a machine!!"

Which could be good for Michael Vick owners. He's gonna need something positive to look forward to as he tries to dig himself out of this hole he's in. Like I said...peaks and valleys.

Since there was no real fantasy value to come out of that game, I too can talk about how ridiculous Belli-chick's behavior has been all year. US Weekly reports that she will also have her "Mangini 4 EVA" tatoo lasered off of her buttocks in the upcoming days.

Clinton Portis hurt. Mark Brunnell done. Jason Campbell in. Redskins out!

That Saints/Steelers game was like dying and going to fantasy heaven. Reggie Bush's first TD, Fast Willie's 200+ yard performance, both QB's hit it big and spread it around. The road to the fantasy playoffs need more games like this.

QB Rankings -- Week 10

Sorry for the delays this week. A trip out to the left coast has left my timetables a little screwed up.

In any event...

No more bye weeks. This is it. Full slate of games coming and fantasy playoff pictures are starting to take shape. Depending on the size of your league and which NFL week you have your fantasy playoffs and championship, most leagues only have 4 or 5 regular season games to go. Tuesday Morning Quarterback

Player of the Week: It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...it's...Javon Walker!!! Whether he was running the ball en route to his 72 yard rushing TD or flying through the air on one of his two 10 yard TD receptions, Walker was all over the place in Pittsburgh. What was even more impressive was that he led both the Broncos and the Steelers in both rushing and receiving yards (134 receiving/72 rushing). Congratulations Javon! News & Notes

So Oaktown loses its 2 game win streak, but one streak they kept going was their 167 minute Monday Night Football scoreless streak. Welcome back to reality, Raiders fans! I'd say you can blame it on the weather, but was that Maurice Morris looking like Walter Payton rushing for 138 yards against you?

Well, well, well. It's lookin' like 1985 all over again, huh Bears fans? No, not another stupid team comparison; just situational. The spirits of Griese and Csonka seem to run wild when the Bears are flirting with an undefeated season. Kudos to the Fins for bringing their A game once again.

Fact: Rex Grossman loses serious fantasy value without Bernard Berrian.
Fiction: Joey Harrington will use this victory as a springboard to a great fantasy second half.

I didn't think Tiki was ever getting in the endzone. Thanks Houston. Maybe now this will open up the floodgates. The yardage has been great, but it's about time he regains his status as a top fantasy RB1.

Now this is the Detroit Lions fantasy owners have been waiting for. Roy Williams and Kevin Jones are thriving in Martz' new offense. Just wait til they get someone better than Kitna.

Peaks and valleys, Michael Vick owners. Welcome to the valley.

So I asked on Saturday which Vikings team was gonna show up? I guess none of them did. Atleast the Niners had Joe Nedney.

LTD!!! Once again proving that he really only needs half a game to pull out a victory for your fantasy team. No one really thought the Browns were gonna shut him down, did they?

Who'd a thunk it?!? The Bills ride to victory on the A-Train? Willis McGahee continues to be a huge fantasy bust and has left his owners scrambling to grab Anthony Thomas from the waiver wire. Good luck with that.

Welcome back Jake the Snake!! Your 2 week "perform or else" period is up. Congratulations. You've managed to keep your starting job. It's the bench for Jay Cutler and flowers and candy for Javon Walker.

Fast Willie Parker getting it done against the high powered Broncos defense. Too bad Big Ben had a Harrington-esque day. 7 INTs in the last 2 games? Maybe someone needs to take some concussion healing time after all.

Peyton Manning walking a little taller this week without that huge ass monkey named Bellichek riding on his back. Someone's buying Marvelous Marvin some real fancy presents, huh?

Welcome back to the Bungles, Cincy fans. Their mascot should be changed to 'Nuke' LaLoosh. They all got million dollar arms and five cent heads.

Don't go crazy grabbing Devery Henderson just yet. He still takes a back seat when Joe Horn comes back. Jeez these Saints look good! Like a damn fantasy goldmine over there.

From a fantasy standpoint it was about average, but in reality, that Cowboys/Skins game was some crazy s**t!!!

Yes, yes. We know. Vince Young needs to work on his passing game. Atleast he finally connected with Drew Bennett.

If Dave Garrard is the starting QB for the Jaguars, then yes...Ernest Wilford should be picked up immediately.

Now that's the Steven Jackson fantasy owners have been waiting for. When they said they were getting him more touches in the second half, I said I'll believe it when I see it. I believe it.

Question of the Week (well, maybe for next week): Am I picking up Trent Green off my waiver wire or is Herm Edwards gonna manage to not screw up his team?

Last Minute Fantasy Looks for Week 9

Atlanta @ Detroit

The Falcons are on a tear and Michael Vick is leading the charge. He's got 7 TDs to only 2 INTs in his last two games and should continue this run against one of the league's worst passing defenses. Michael Jenkins and Alge Crumpler are the beneficiaries here and should both be starting if you own them. The Lions do actually have an better than average run defense, so don't expect anything huge from Warrick Dunn. For the Lions, it looks like they should be playing catchup so Jon Kitna and Roy Williams should be putting up decent numbers. Look for Mike Furrey to possibly cash in as well. Playing catch up and a solid Falcons run D makes for a rough day for Kevin Jones. But he should get worked into the passing game a little more if they need to dump it off to a safety valve. It looks like you should expect a pretty high scoring affair here.

Cincinnati @ Baltimore

On paper it looks like a high powered offense vs. a high powered defense, but the Bengals have been stumbling of late. The matchups on the corners, Samari Rolle on T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chris McAllister on Chad Johnson, are the big story here and everyone expects the receivers to be held in check. The Ravens against the run are solid so it's going to be tough for Rudi Johnson to get going. So why am I calling for a Bengals win here? Chris Henry and Chris Perry. The best the Ravens have against Henry is Ed Reed and that's already a mismatch. Look for Carson Palmer to hit Perry on the short passes to move down field and then hit Henry for the longer strikes in the red zone. I'm not sold on Jamal Lewis one bit, so expect Steve McNair to do a lot of throwing. Todd Heap and Derrick Mason should make for average plays this week.

Dallas @ Washington

With the Skins secondary getting healthy, this no longer looks like a cake walk for Tony Romo, who needs to earn some fantasy respect here. He'll have Terrell Owens and Jason Witten, his two favorite targets, but he may not have Terry Glenn who is limited by some mysterious ailment once referred to as a quad injury. Even though he is listed as probable, he might not even be active for the game. You'll have to wait until game time for that, but even so...if you have a healthier option, use it. Look for Dallas to lean on Julius Jones a little more, making him a decent RB2 for this week. For the Skins, they could have some problems on offense. Dallas has one of the best rushing defenses which should hamper Clinton Portis and in the passing game, Mark Brunnell will be without his main target Santana Moss who will be inactive on Sunday. Expect to see a little more Chris Cooley with maybe some Antwaan Randle-El mixed in.

Green Bay @ Buffalo

The key to this game for the Bills is keeping Ahman Green in check. If the Bills can stop the run, then this game turns into a shootout. The Packers should have no problem with the always disappointing Willis McGahee, so it's going to come down to the passing games. J.P. Losman has Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish and the suddenly re-emerging Peerless Price going against a horrible secondary this week while Brett Favre seems to only have Donald Driver. Greg Jennings re-injured himself late in the week at practice and is a less than hopeful game time decision and Robert Ferguson is also chronically banged up. Maybe someone can wake up Bubba Franks, but that's unlikely. It could actually be a fun game to watch -- the Pack is playing with momentum and the Bills are rested and ready from their bye.

Houston @ NY Giants

If the Giants can focus on this week and not look ahead to the upcoming matchup against Chicago, then this could be a fantasy gold mine for Giants owners. Eli Manning has the ability to carve up the Houston secondary while Tiki Barber continues to rack up huge yardage games. **sigh** If only he could find the endzone. Plaxico Burress is a game time decision, but it doesn't look too good for him with his chronic back injuries. Look for Jeremy Shockey and Amani Toomer to have big days on Sunday. For the Texans, it could be a rough day. Wali Lundy will be hard pressed to find yardage and David Carr could be running for his life all day against a strong Giants pass rush...unless he gets benched again for Sage Rosenfels. Either way, you'll probably be able to expect a few Carr/Rosenfels to Andre Johnson bombs, so the wideout makes for a great play this week.

Kansas City @ St. Louis

Larry Johnson has just been explosive these past few weeks, and he's been ripping up pretty good run defenses in that time. Think about just how much damage he can do against a team ranked 27th against the run. But don't count out the Chiefs passing game. They're not going to be able to run the ball all day if they want to keep up with the Rams high powered passing game, so expect Damon Huard, who is playing with Shane Falco-esque reckless abandon (Trent Green Week 10 rumors are swirling), to try airing it out as if it were his last game. Nothing dazzling, but a few good strikes to Tony Gonzalez and Eddie Kennison are highly probable. For the Rams, you can expect a lot of the Marc Bulger air attack. He'll be looking for his #1 guy, Torry Holt, and should hit Isaac Bruce and Kevin Curtis along the way. Steven Jackson should have a good day if the score stays close or if the Chiefs fold to the aerial assault.

Miami @ Chicago

Guaranteed ugliness if you're a Fins fan. This one is going to be abusive, somehwere along the lines of last weeks Bears/Niners matchup. But don't expect the Bears offense to be the one doing the damage. Miami has the 4th best pass defense and a pretty solid run defense, so don't expect eye popping numbers from Rex Grossman and Co. They'll put up decent numbers, but the eye popping numbers will come on defense as the Bears feast on Joey Harrington. He's going to be under the gun all day and it's not going to be pretty. Ronnie Brown should also suffer here as will Chris Chambers and Randy McMichael. None of them look to be decent plays at all. If this is the case (and trust me...it will be), then Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson should put up decent numbers as the Bears keep it on the ground to eat up the clock in the second half.

New Orleans @ Tampa Bay

You should see a nice balance on offense for the Saints this week as the Deuce McAllister/Reggie Bush tandem should fare pretty well against a horrible Bucs run D. Bush is listed as questionable but he is expected to play. The passing game for Drew Brees should fare well as long as Joe Horn (questionable -- game time decision) is in the lineup. With Horn starting, the offense will be able to spread out with targets all over the place. If not, then Marques Colston is going to see some extra coverage which could make things difficult. But not as difficult as it's been for the Bucs. Their offense has been atrociuos, and I don't really see Bruce Gradkowski breaking out here. He will have to air it out however, so atleast Joey Galloway is going to get the deep looks. I sense a lot of Carnell Williams in the first half and the team should lean heavily on him this week.

Tennessee @ Jacksonville

This should be an interesting matchup with some decent fantasy points to be found. Jaguars starter Dave Garrard gets Matt Jones back to join Reggie Williams and Ernest Wilford against one of the worst secondaries in the league. To make matters worse, it looks like Adam "Pacman" Jones will be out this week following a team suspension. Behind the steady running of Fred Taylor, the Jags should have a nicely balanced offfense that could put up some big points for you. For the Titans, the road to victory could be too tough to overcome. Vince Young is starting to get more comforatable, but he still needs to work on his passing game. 87 passing yards is just not acceptable at this level. As for the rest of the Titans, they all become risky plays against a tough Jags defense. Travis Henry may end up repeating last week's performance, and ever since Billy Volek left town, Drew Bennett has been invisible.

Minneosta @ San Francisco

So which Vikings team is gonna show up this week? Maybe it depends on their opponent. They need to feast on the weak apparently. This may be good for them as the Niners have given up the most points in the league and were shredded by the Bears last week. If Minnesota wants to win, then Chester Taylor is going to need to come up bigger this week. He's already losing more and more third down carries to Mewelde Moore. Another one that needs to step it up is Brad Johnson. If he can't put together a decent game, then we may be seeing a lot more of Brooks Bolinger. For the Niners, it's all about redemption. Frank Gore is angry and should put together a solid game which will open it up for Alex Smith to find guys like Antonio Bryant and Arnaz Battle down field. I see a 49ers upset here...

Cleveland @ San Diego

The over/under on TDs for LaDanian Tomlinson is 3 this week. The league's best running back gets a nice cushy matchup against a weak Browns run D. He should be the fantasy super stud he's always been. This should make it easier for Phillip Rivers to spread out the offense a little and hit Antonio Gates and the surprising Vincent Jackson for a couple of scores. New Browns offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson should have his work cut out for him this week as he'll see that Reuben Droughns isn't running against a weak Jets defense this week, but a strong Chargers defense that is pretty stingy on the run. I think we're going to see Charlie Frye air it out a little more as the boys from Cleveland will be behind most of the day. Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow are the only real viable fantasy options from this team and neither of them is really that strong of a play this week.

Denver @ Pittsburgh

A big defensive battle here. You've got two of the most impressive defenses and two somewhat sputtering offenses. Doesn't really make for fanatsy excitement, does it? Willie Parker is going to have his hands full this week and he's going to find it difficult to break out against a stingy Broncos D. Which means that the burden may fall on Ben Roethlisberger and that's not such a great guarantee anymore. His 4 INTs last week has guys like Champ Baily salivating. Consider Hines Ward a mediocre play at best this week. For the Broncos on offense, it doesn't look much better. Will we see Jake the Snake or Jake the Fake this week? Mike Bell will get the start this week with Tatum Bell ( turf toe) coming off the bench here or there, so they're going to need Plummer to have a decent game if they want to find success. Javon Walker and maybe even Rod Smith could see some good action here. But the real fantasy points getters will probably end up being Jeff Reed and Jason Elam.

Indianapolis @ New England

Bill Bellicheck gives nightmares to Peyton Manning and the Colts, plain and simple. The Pats are 7-1 in their last eight meetings and they usually keep Peyton from achieving his usually eye-popping stats. Fantasy wise thought he'll still be a solid play as he works his way through Bellicheck's defensive schemes. Dallas Clark, Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne are all still solid fantasy options. Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes, maybe not so much as the Pats have the #3 ranked run defense in the league. For the Pats on offense, it's going to be all about the run. The Colts run D is awful and Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney should carve them up all day long. So maybe Tom Brady doesn't throw the ball 50 times this week. He may be facing a tough Indy secondary, but he's got enough targets in Ben Watson, Doug Gabriel and Chad Jackson to keep the defense on it's heels a bit. Don't look now, but this could be the quest for the undefeated season may end here.

Oakland @ Seattle

Two teams moving in opposite directions here. The Raiders have won 2 in a row, we finally see both Jerry Porter and Randy Moss lining up together. It also looks like Lamont Jordan is ready to go this week after all. The Seahawks have shown that losing Shaun Alexander was rough, but without Matt Hasselbeck too, they have been left a complete disaster. With Maurice Morris showing his inability to be a regular back in this league, Seneca Wallace has been fed to the wolves here. It doesn't matter that they have great receivers in Deion Branch and Darrell Jackson, they've just been awful. And it's not going to help that they face one of the league's toughest pass defenses in the Raiders. It looks like Oaktown could be on a little bit of a roll here.
